Fishermen and Mussel Hunters from Burgas and the Region Met with the NAFA Director Hristo Panayotov
NAFA Executive Director Hristo Panayotov received representatives of various fish industry organizations who expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing proceedings to issue a joint administrative act to introduce a ban on hunting for white sand mussels of the species Donax trunculus and Chamelea gallina in the period May 1 – July 31 2022
They expressed the opinion that the ban should not be imposed for a specific period of time, but should be consistent with the temperature of sea water, which, in their opinion, directly affects the beginning of the breeding season of white sand mussels. Their demands also include a ban on hunting for white mussels smaller than 2.5 cm.
Panayotov and NAARA Deputy Executive Director Nikolay Boychev called on industry representatives to formulate their proposals for changes in the project within the deadline for public discussion.
“The door to debate remains open. It is very important that the dialogue between all parties continues, I can guarantee you that everything we discussed will be taken into account, “Panayotov said, pledging to brief the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture on the demands.
