Burgas Fishermen Are Enjoying a Record Bonito Catch This Year
Fishermen along our southern Black Sea coast report a record bonito catch. In the last 2 weeks, some of them have been catching 2 tons each and marketing the fish all over the country. The most orders are from city of Karlovo, Lovech and Sofia.
This type of passage fish is very valuable for our commercial fishing and comes to our waters in autumn. The bonito is a migratory fish that appears in almost 7-year periods.
“The water along our southern Black Sea coast is still warm, which is good for the catch, but it is impossible to predict whether this will last for long. The fish monitors the temperature of the water, if it doesn’t like that it’s cold or if it foresees bad weather, it will suddenly disappear Last year it showed a little, this year it’s more, next year it might be even more. . The fish is a good size, even bigger than normal,” the fishermen report.
Bonito is a very fast fish. From Cape Emine to the Bosphorus, the passage takes 8 hours. Unlike previous years, this year there is no safrid. The small fish disappear because the bonito is very fast and predatory and eats everything.
The joy of the fishermen at the good catch is marred by the fact that, despite the changes made in the Fisheries sector, small-scale fishing continues to be unsupported. The state does not relieve the fishermen, on the contrary – the 10-12 meter boats continue to fill out three trade logs and prove income. “In most European countries, these diaries have fallen away. And here?” – ask those employed in the industry.

“The only way to support this sector is to make modern ports with the corresponding small exchanges, as is the example from Italy, Greece, Romania and Spain”, explain the experts in the sector.
